GBT
GB Taekwondo has set a new benchmark for athlete medical support by adopting AB3 Medical’s innovative Medical Passport app and dashboard.
The AB3 system is already making a significant impact at the National Taekwondo Centre, where athletes that are part of the Taekwondo World Class Programme use it alongside the UK Sport medical record system. AB3’s platform helps to ensure that the demands of an intense taekwondo calendar are met seamlessly, while empowering athletes and medics worldwide with instant access to critical medical information.
For the first time, GB Taekwondo athletes can access their comprehensive medical history on their app anytime, anywhere in the world. Given our athletes compete globally on a hectic schedule, AB3’s system and MiCode have become a valuable tool for the team as it helps to ensure fully informed decisions without delay, no matter the location.
Accessible Medical History, Anytime, Anywhere
Fragmented medical records have long been a challenge in sport with private care systems, NHS and abroad being on different systems. AB3 addresses this by syncing notes on its dashboard with the athlete’s app. With athlete consent, medics worldwide can access critical information instantly allowing optimal treatment. AB3 allows these third-party clinicians to write or dictate directly into the app, so the home medical team instantly know what has happened.
AB3 has partnered with MiCode, which provides our athletes and staff with wearable personalised QR codes on a keyring, card, sticker or bracelet. Consequently, in an emergency, any medical staff can scan emergency medical information like allergies, major medical conditions and next of kin details. GB Taekwondo has also introduced the use of this system for foreign athletes participating in camps at the National Taekwondo Centre as the system can be translated in any language.
In addition, AB3 Medical offers advanced tools to simplify care and promote athlete well-being:
● Integrated Medical Records: GPs, A&E specialists, and international medics can input notes via typed or audio consults, ensuring instant handover to the home medical team.
● Self-Screening Tools: Free health questionnaires like medical, cardiac, mental health and red flag symptom screens and SCAT6 concussion tools are available on the athlete app, which are visible to the team medics on their dashboard. These tools empower athletes while streamlining screenings for medical teams and specialists like cardiologists.
● Customisable Resources Hub: A dedicated hub provides tailor-made resources to meet the unique needs of taekwondo athletes.
Supporting Athletes Beyond Competition
The benefits of AB3’s system can also extend beyond active competition. When athletes transition out of the programme, whether through release or retirement, using AB3 to retain access to their private medical care records, has helped to ensure a smooth transitions into NHS systems and simplifying insurance claims when necessary.
