PARA HOST DAY- LAUNCHING FIGHTERBILITY

On Sunday 2nd Feb, ParlympicsGB hosted a 'Discover Your Paralympic Potential' trial day at the Greenbank Sports Academy, (Liverpool). 17 other sports / governing bodies featured alongside taekwondo.

The Discover Your Paralympic Potential Day (DYPPD) events were launched last year as a series of opportunities up and down the UK for future and potential Paralympians to access a range of different sports for a taster experience.

The DYPPD experience is designed to;

•Provide opportunities to ‘experience’ a taster session with different Paralympic sports
•To meet Paralympic medallists (thank you Beth Munro!)
•Find out about Paralympic classification
•Take part in basic performance profiling
•Speak to experienced coaches and talent leads
•Engage in a Disability Sport Activation Zone

On the day, Ed and Josh Calland (Whiston Taekwondo) did an inspirational job leading and delivering taekwondo taster opportunities throughout the day. Ed and Josh were joined by Keira Forsythe, former GBT Academy para-athlete, alongside Tokyo Paralympic Silver medallist, Beth Munro.

In excess of 108 individuals signed up to the event and we got to meet a handful of upper limb different individuals.
British Taekwondo & GB Taekwondo were delighted to feature as a sport, and with the opportunity to specifically promote the Fighterbility campaign launched during the Paris Paralympics, 2024.

Fighterbility is a call to action for upper limb different individuals who were inspired by Paris and the Paralympic champions Amy Truesdale and Matt Bush, and silver medallist from Tokyo, Beth Munro, for those able to compete at K44 classification and who are interested to find a sport and community open to them. The programme will shine a spotlight on a path for individuals to join the sport, to benefit from the fun, fight and fitness of Taekwondo, as well as open an opportunity for upper limb different individuals to embark on a journey in an adrenaline-fuelled combat sport, and who knows, a road to a future Paralympics, (LA and beyond).

Fighterbility is GB Taekwondo’s commitment to creating a movement through building partnerships with key charities such as Reach, national disability sport organisations such as LimbPower and uniting the power of pilot clubs to help us remove barriers which often keep people across the country from taking part in, and enjoying, sport and in turn, inspire a new generation of taekwondo heroes.

Fighterbility pilot clubs: AD Taekwondo, Black Widow Taekwondo, Central Taekwondo, Cymru Taekwondo, Focus Taekwondo, Horizon Taekwondo, Passion Taekwondo, Peak Performance Academy, Quest Taekwondo, and Whiston Taekwondo.

Beth Munro inspires the next generation with her presence at Paralympic GB’s DYP in Liverpool whilst Ben Quilter, (Athlete Recruitment Network Manager for Paralympics GB), introduces the day.

Meanwhile Ed, Josh Calland and Keira deliver a master class taster session with those who signed up for taekwondo!
